More on those strange elefinks
Elfi and Heinrich were smart kids. Volker had named his son after a famous german writer whom he rather liked. Had he known his son would be this intelligent, he might have named him Albert, after Albert Einstein.
The other day Heinrich and Elfi had accidentally discovered that one elephant wiggled his ears upon hearing "Om". They often wondering why that was so. Were there any other words that would have the same effect.
In the evening, while elephant-riding towards the hill, Elfi had remarked, "Arunachala is looking so beautiful in the sunset!"
Instantly, one elephant's turban had bounced up.
Heinrich called out, "What did you say?"
She repeated her words and once again the turban jumped up.
"Did you see that, Heinrich? ... It seems that this one here", tapping the elephant like he was some statue on display, " responds to Arunachala."
They continued walking. After a while, Heinrich asked Elfi, "What is beyond the hill, Effi?" (Little Heinrich used to call Elfi "Effi" when he started talking at about two or three, and he still sometimes called her that.)
She answered, "Oh that's the town."
"What town?"
"Tiru ... Tiru" (the third elephant turned his face back!) "it's a big word, i can't remember it ... tiru - something - malai"
Upon hearing this all three elephants and the leopard began shaking, almost convulsing.
"Does anyone else get the feeling that the elefinks are laughing at us?" asked Elfi, a little annoyed.
"But they are terribly nice, are they not?", said Heinrich in their support.
"Yes, I feel like they are our best friends!" replied Elfi.
